Let’s acknowledge an uncomfortable truth:  Even today, with the tremendous advances  women have made in business, government, and their own homes, women still face formidable - and often frustrating - communications challenges in the workplace.

That’s why - drawing from our thirty years coaching women leaders, and five years teaching in Columbia Business School’s Women in Leadership program - we offer a variety of different programs and classes for amplifying women’s voices. Our most popular class for women, our 55-minute virtual Lite Byte webinar, “Make Your Voice Heard - A Master Class in Communications for Women” is profiled below. This Lite Byte can be customized, delivered in a longer format, or expanded to include a hands-on component.

ABOUT THE Session

Workplace culture, societal attitudes towards gender and race, and internal obstacles have made it harder for women to make their voices heard and their contributions acknowledged at work.  But there are steps women can take to communicate with greater confidence, persuasiveness, and authority.

In this Lite Byte, you’ll learn how to do the mental preparation that allows you to be your most confident self when you speak up at a high-stakes meeting,  land your points with authority, and respond calmly and strategically when you get  pushback.

We’ll introduce you to mental techniques used by Olympic athletes to improve their performance, and strategies used by performers and business leaders to outsmart their fears and speak with poise and finesse.

We’ll also give you a toolkit of handy transitional phrases that will help you deftly interject your point of view into a fast moving conversation, change the topic when necessary, and speak up even when you’re feeling unsure.

If you want to empower yourself - and your  communications - this class is for you.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

  • The surprising prevalence of "impostor syndrome” among highly successful people;

  • How a small change in mindset can lead to a big increase in your confidence;

  • Why imagining the worst can actually help you to be your best;

  • The power of visualization to train your mind for success;

  • How to eliminate qualifiers and hedges that diminish your authority;

  • Different techniques for inserting your point into an ongoing conversation;

  • How to use the “questioning” technique to change minds and influence decision-making;

  • The most effective way to answer a straightforward question or make a point.

OPTIONAL LEARNING LAB WORKSHOP AVAILABLE

Looking to offer participants a hands-on experience after they take this class? Our Learning Lab add-on class may be just the thing.  Learning Labs give participants a chance to bring in their own content and practice key skills for instructor feedback.  So that we can offer a personalized experience, we limit the number of attendees who can join each Learning Lab. Each participant will be asked to complete some light “pre-work” beforehand so they come to the session warmed up and ready to go.
