ABOUT THE Session

Giving project updates seems like a straightforward business task, but getting them right is trickier than it seems.

You might have lots of data and information, but figuring out what to share and how much is a balancing act.  Give too much detail and you run the risk of boring your audience.  Give too little and you may confuse someone who doesn’t have the background or context.

Then there’s the question of who you’re presenting to.  Different people need different levels and types of information - even about the same topic - so calibrating what your senior leader needs to hear versus your team, is a challenge all its own.

This class will share some best practices to help you make your next project update more engaging and compelling, regardless of whether you’re doing an informal update or a more formal Town Hall presentation.  You’ll take away a surefire formula for crafting an update that hits the relevant high points, is crisp and concise, and moves your agenda forward.

what you’ll learn

  • How to use a structure called “HEMA” to make your update brief and to the point;

  • How to move from the “what” to the “so what”;

  • How to use mini-stories and examples to bring your main point to life;

  • Why you should change your update when presenting to more senior decision-makers versus peers;

  • How to write a “headline” for your update.

OPTIONAL LEARNING LAB WORKSHOP AVAILABLE

Looking to offer participants a hands-on experience after they take this class? Our Learning Lab add-on class may be just the thing.  Learning Labs give participants a chance to bring in their own content and practice key skills for instructor feedback.  So that we can offer a personalized experience, we limit the number of attendees who can join each Learning Lab. Each participant will be asked to complete some light “pre-work” beforehand so they come to the session warmed up and ready to go.
